He received a minimal amount from his father and used it to open an art gallery, which he later closed when times got too hard. He immediately started working with Robert Piguet before being called up to serve in the military during the 1939-1945 World War. He was discharged from military service in 1942, and he immediately joined Lucien Lelong, the fashion house.
With his talent, he would soon team up with Pierre Balmain to be the primary designers of the house. During the Second World War, Christian Dior would dress the wives of most Nazi heavyweights and their French collaborators. When the war ended, Dior founded his fashion house, on October 1946, with finances from the cotton fabrics’ magnet, Marcel Boussac. Thus began one of the greatest fashion houses of all time.
